Longhorns Don’t Litter

ABOUT US

The University of Texas at Austin is home to a beautiful watershed that cuts straight through the east side of campus: Waller Creek. But did you know half of UT students haven’t heard of this peaceful slice of urban nature right in the heart of the Forty Acres?

“Longhorns Don't Litter” is a campaign designed by Environmental Communications students to reduce litter and prevent other forms of “nonpoint source pollution” from washing into Waller Creek. Green spaces are a major source of our Longhorn pride, but few students take the time to appreciate Waller Creek. If that's you, consider trying our guided walking tour so you can Experience Waller Creek, and get involved with Longhorns Don’t Litter!

FIND US ON CAMPUS

Longhorns Don’t Litter has partnered with the University’s Environmental Health & Safety Department to develop a new label for storm drains on campus! We improved the previous storm drain label design by explicitly naming the location that stormwater drains to: Waller Creek. This will hopefully establish a more tangible relationship between the quality of campus watersheds and University students, faculty, and visitors. By establishing this relationship, we can tap into the University pride of Longhorns so that they are more protective of natural spaces on their campus. In concept, this association of clean and beautiful green spaces with University pride will deter behaviors that contribute to nonpoint source pollution. Be on the lookout for these labels around campus, and try to be more aware of our wonderful, but not invincible, watershed: Waller Creek!
